Free Community Watersports Activity Days
Sunday 19th June and Sunday 3rd July 2022

10am – 4pm

This year Sail Birmingham and Midland Sailing Club are teaming up with Birmingham Rowing Club to help celebrate the Commonwealth Games coming to Birmingham in 2022.

Adults and children can come along and try out a range of watersports free of charge with no booking required.

Rowing At Birmingham Rowing Club, Reservoir Road, B16 0AA

Sailing, Windsurfing and Paddle boarding At Midland Sailing Club, Icknield Port Road, B16 0AA

Limited free parking on site, and bus 80a stops outside. Cyclists welcome!


Learn to Row, Sail, Windsurf or Paddleboard (Half-price offer in 2022)

There will also be half-price beginner courses in Rowing, Sailing and Windsurfing plus half-price paddle boarding sessions for residents from Edgbaston, Harborne, Ladywood and North Edgbaston wards throughout the summer and autumn.

These are funded by each ward’s Celebrating Communities Fund and places are limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Buoyancy aids are provided, and everyone is required to wear one. You are likely to get a bit wet if trying rowing or sailing, so please consider bringing a change of clothes and bring footwear that you do not mind getting wet, old trainers or water shoes are preferred, no crocs, flip flops or sandals. For windsurfing and paddle boarding you will very likely get wet (!), you can borrow wetsuits if you wish to, please bring a towel and a swimsuit for under the wetsuit.


There is a café at Midland Sailing Club that is open with hot and cold drinks and snacks available to purchase.


Watersports are fun to do on hot sunny days or even when it is raining.

However, if there are high winds or a severe weather warning the Free Community Watersports Activity Days will not go ahead. If the weather is bad, please check the website and our Facebook page for up to the minute information.
