What Is Sailability?
Sailability is the RYA’s national initiative designed to make sailing accessible to those with additional needs. With over 200 participating clubs across the UK, Sailability provides opportunities that support:
- Confidence building

- Social connection
Whether you’re new to sailing or returning to the water, Sailability is designed to offer meaningful progression and enjoyable, safe experiences.
Why you should try sailing at Sail Birmingham
Sail Birmingham believes that sailing is for everyone, and our Sailability program, partnered with the Royal Yachting Association, makes getting on the water accessible, safe, and fun for people of all ages and abilities.
Delivered by trained instructors and passionate volunteers, our approach focuses on enjoyment first, personalizing every session to feel welcoming, safe and enjoyable.
Our sessions are delivered by trained staff and volunteers and supported with adaptive boats, hoists, ramps, and accessible facilities, ensuring every activity follows best practice accessibility standards and offers meaningful progression for both new and returning sailors.
Who can take part?
Anyone! Our dedicated team of instructors and volunteers here to personalize each session to your needs. At Sail Birmingham we are here to make your time enjoyable, while still focusing on safety at our core.
