Powerboat Level 2 - 28th & 29th August - Ages 16+
Launch boat driving courses. We deliver the RYA's National Powerboat Scheme for those wanting to drive small open powerboats such as RIBs (rigid inflatable boats), sports boats and small launches. These boats are generally powered by an outboard engine, do not normally have accommodation on board, and so are not intended for extended cruises. They may be used for short coastal or inland trips, fishing, safety cover for other watersports, waterskiing or as a support boat for diving. We are an Inland centre and as such only deliver Inland courses.
Whether you use powerboats for leisure or work, or in connection with another activity such as sailing or rescue, we have a course for you.
Courses will be taken onboard our centre's boat, if in doubt, call us to discuss your requirements before booking your course if necessary on 07940235645.
Please note: we only deliver training course in how to drive a powerboat/launch safely – we DO NOT provide opportunities to partake in this as a pastime.
What does the RYA Level 2 Powerboat cover?
The RYA Powerboat Level 2 is a popular two-day practical course. With no prior experience needed you can quickly become a confident and certified powerboat driver.
The course covers the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat confidently and unsupervised.
The course focuses on low-speed close-quarter handling, coming alongside, mooring on a buoy, man overboard recovery as well as an introduction to driving at planing speed plus collision regulations.
After the course you will be capable of driving a powerboat safely, aware of your own limitations and those of the boat.
The two-day course runs 9.30am - 5.00pm on both days of chosen course dates. It is run with a minimum of 2 students + instructor and a maximum of 3 students, to ensure you have plenty of opportunity to practice driving. The certificate is based on continual assessment, so there are no exams.
